Signs That You Need a Water Softener

Plumbing problems are some of the most frustrating issues to deal with when it comes to your home. They’re hard to detect early, have the potential to cause thousands of dollars in damages to your home, and are often difficult to repair unless you catch them at just the right time. Lime scale is one of the most frustrating plumbing problems you can deal with, because it so often goes unnoticed until it’s quite advanced. If you know what to look for, though, you can catch lime scale well before it grows enough to threaten your plumbing system. Let’s take a look at some signs you can look for that indicate a need for water softening.

Calcium Deposits

Lime scale is created by hard water, which is water with very high levels of magnesium and calcium in it. As hard water flows over a surface over a long period of time, it will deposit small amounts of these minerals. Eventually, these tiny mineral deposits can grow quite large. These large lime scale deposits can restrict the flow of water through pipes, and will harden if not removed early enough. At that point, the entire pipe will need to be replaced.

Lime scale is not limited to pipes, however. Keep an eye out for a white, chalky buildup around your faucets or in your bathtub. That’s lime scale, and if you have it in those areas you likely have it in your pipes.

Water Pressure

If the lime scale advances far enough to start afflicting your pipes, you’ll notice a drop in water pressure over time. Time is of the essence once this becomes noticeable, as it means that the lime scale is already quite built up. Call for water softening services as soon as you notice this, in order to limit the damage as much as possible.
