Is Your Toilet Leaking? Tips to Follow

It goes without saying that one of the biggest nuisances and messiest plumbing problems to deal with is that of a leaky toilet. However, the good news is that some toilet leaks can be an easy fix. We’ve shared some tips below to follow if you do discover a toilet leak, which includes how to shut off your water if needed. Should you find that your leak is a more serious matter and you need a professional plumber, our staff is standing by.

If You Need to Shut Off Your Water

If your leak is rushing water into your bathroom, then you’ll want to shut off the water immediately. There is usually a valve located right next to your toilet. Older valves may have difficulty shutting off. If this is the case then you’ll need to find your main shutoff valve instead.

Check Your Toilet Bolts

If you are experiencing a slow leak pooling around the bottom of the toilet, try drying it off completely first. Then, wait to see if another pool forms from the bottom of the tank. If this does happen, then you might need a new wax seal at the bottom of the toilet, which is a task that a professional plumber can provide.

However, the issue could be that the bolts holding your toilet down are simply loose. Try tightening them one by one. Dry the area before doing so for each bolt in order to test if tightening them is helping.

Other Toilet Problems

If you’ve noticed cracks in your toilet or leaks with no apparent source, then it’s time to call our trustworthy staff. You’ll need a professional plumber to handle the job since a toilet replacement is not an easy one. You can easily end up with a big mess on your hands if you try to tackle this on your own.
