Signs That You Need Plumbing Repair

One of the most irritating things about plumbing systems is how difficult it can be to detect problems with them. This is because most of the average plumbing system is hidden from view, which makes it all but impossible to detect plumbing problems early. If you know what to look for, however, there are still ways to find plumbing problems before they inflict massive damage on the system. Let’s take a look at some of those problems now.

Loss of Water Pressure

Leaks are a fairly common problem for plumbing systems, and can cause quite a bit of damage if they’re large enough. One way to detect moderate to large leaks is to keep an eye out for a drop in water pressure. If the water pressure drops significantly it could indicate a rupture somewhere in your plumbing system. If you notice this happening, you should turn off the water and call for repairs immediately. It’s also possible that a loss of water pressure could be caused by a blockage in your pipes.

Calcium Buildup

If you notice a white, chalky buildup around your faucets or in your shower, you probably have a hard water problem. Hard water is the result of high levels of magnesium and calcium getting into your water supply, usually while it’s percolating through soil and rock. Hard water causes lime scale, which can eventually build up enough to restrict the flow of water through your system. Eventually, the buildup can become so bad that the affected pipes need to be replaced. If you notice this buildup in areas normally exposed to water, like in your bathroom, you should call a professional to examine your pipes for lime scale.
