This Is How to Kill COVID-19 in Your Home

The worst of the COVID-19 pandemic is over and people have been able to resume many of the activities they enjoyed before. However, the reality is that the world is different now. The COVID-19 pandemic brought about an awareness of how germs and viruses are spread. Many homeowners are seeking answers on how to keep their homes as healthy as they possibly can, not just by eliminating the COVID-19 virus, but by reducing the amount of germs and pathogens in their homes.

We’ve got a great way to neutralize COVID-19 and other germs with the power of UV light, keeping your home safer, healthier, and happier. Keep reading to learn more about UV air purifiers in Albuquerque, NM.

Air Filters Vs Air Purifiers

There are a variety of products designed to improve the indoor air quality in your home. The simplest process is filtration. This works by drawing the air in your home through a filter made of fiberglass or layers of folded paper or cloth.

This material captures particles such as dust, pollen, mold spores, and pet hair, preventing them from being recirculated through your home. This can decrease respiratory irritation and even make it so that less dust settles on surfaces around the house, allowing you to spend less time dusting, wiping, sweeping, and vacuuming.

Air purifiers do contain a filter to capture particles in the same way. But they also perform an additional step that further cleans the air.

Methods of Purification

There are two main ways that air purifiers approach the problem of tiny, potentially-dangerous particles that might pass through the filter.

  • Electronic Air Purifiers: These use electricity to reduce the number of germs that are able to get through the system and back out into the air you breathe. An electrostatic field, created by electric currents, imparts an electric charge to the particles passing through. Then as the particles continue through the system, they are captured by a surface that has an opposite charge.
  • UV Air Purifiers: Instead of simply trapping pathogens, these purifiers have the power to kill and eliminate germs and pathogens. In addition to passing through a filter, when air goes through a UV purifier, it is exposed to a powerful light source. This UV light damages the germs beyond repair.

How Light Can Kill Germs

Powerful UV light destroys chemical bonds within microorganisms. DNA, RNA, and proteins are unraveled, making it so that the germ is unable to reproduce and incapable of causing infection. And while this may seem like a futuristic idea, UV light has been used for sterilization for many decades because it is so safe and so effective. It’s even employed in the sterilization of surgical tools!

If you’re interested in keeping your air fresh and clean and reducing your risk of being exposed to a wide variety of pathogens, we’re here to advise you about all your air purification options.
