The Benefits of Installing a Boiler System This Fall

We are a little ways into heating season, and for some of us that means that it is time to install a new heating system. If you’re one of those people who are looking for a new heating solution this season, consider installing a boiler system. Let’s take a look at the advantages of boiler systems.

How Boiler Heating Systems Work

Boilers do not use air to distribute heat. Instead, they heat and circulate water throughout the house using a network of pipes. This network is installed in the walls and floor of each room. As water flows through the pipes, the heat from it radiates out into the room. The thermal energy is transmitted from object to object, keeping the heat near the floor of the room where it is most needed. This method of heating is known as “radiant heating.”

The Advantage of a Boiler Heating System

There are multiple advantages to using a radiant heating system over a forced air system. For one thing, water makes a much better medium for heat transfer than air does. Water heats up faster, and stays warm for longer, than air does. The pipe network that the boiler system uses also does not suffer leaks nearly as often as ducts do, making radiant heating much more energy efficient overall.

Boilers also help improve your indoor air quality. Forced air systems tend to dry out the air and circulate contaminants, which is part of the reason why cold and flu illnesses are more common during the winter. Boiler systems do not affect air quality at all, allowing you to keep warm without compromising your health.
