The Advantages of Ductless Heating

Winter has arrived. Hopefully, you’ve already got a good heating system to keep your home warm for the rest of the season. If not, though, it’s not too late. Consider installing a ductless heating system. Ductless mini split heaters offer a lot of unique advantages, due to their construction. Read on to find out how ductless heating systems work, and the advantages that they provide.

How Ductless Heating Works

Ductless mini split systems use smaller air handlers to heat each room, rather than a single air handler that distributes air through ducts. Each air handler is installed on the wall of a room that is to be heated, with its own thermostat to control it. Up to 4 air handlers can be attached to an outdoor unit, using a conduit of refrigerant and power lines. In heating mode, the outdoor unit can siphon thermal energy from the air and send it inside to be distributed. Since ductless mini splits are heat pumps, they can reverse the flow of refrigerant through their systems. This allows them to act as air conditioning systems, as well.

Advantages of Ductless Heating

There are two major advantages to ductless heating: energy efficiency and convenience. Ductless heating systems are energy efficient because they don’t burn any kind of fuel to heat the home. They use only pre-existing heat, which saves you quite a bit of money in the long run. As for convenience, having their own thermostats means you can set each air handler for the ideal temperature in the room it serves. You don’t have to worry about hot and cold spots created by heating the entire house the same amount.
