The Benefits of Ductless Mini Splits

If you’re in the market for a new heating system this winter, you may be tempted to go with the same kind of system you had before. Inertia is a pretty powerful force when it comes to decisions like these, especially considering the choice paralysis that so many heating options can create. Before you make a decision, however, you really should take a look at what other home heating systems have to offer. Let’s take a look at ductless mini splits, how they work, and how they can benefit your home.

What is a Ductless Mini Split?

A ductless mini split is a type of heat pump. There are a minimum of two units, one installed inside and one installed outside, with up to four inside units attached to a single outside unit. Each inside unit is installed in a separate room, with its own corresponding thermostat. The inside and outside units are connected by power and refrigerant lines. In heating mode, the outside unit evaporates refrigerant to absorb thermal energy from the surrounding air. It then sends the refrigerant gas inside to be condensed, which releases the heat into the home. The ductless system also contains a part called the reversing valve, which allows it to switch between heating and cooling modes.

Advantages of Ductless Mini Splits

Since ductless mini splits don’t have to burn any kind of fuel to generate heat, they are automatically more energy efficient than the majority of home heating systems on the market. The ability to offer both heating and cooling modes is also a huge benefit to homeowners who want to save money and space. These are the two primary reasons that people invest in ductless systems.
