Signs That You Need Drain Cleaning

You probably don’t think too much about the drains in your home. Why would you, right? It isn’t like your drains demand a whole lot of attention. Inconspicuous though your drains may be under normal circumstances, though, there are a few signs that you should watch out for. If you can catch the symptoms of a drain problem early, you can limit the damage that your sewer system might suffer. Let’s take a look at some of the signs that you need drain cleaning.

Slow Drainage

A lot of people think that drain clogs form suddenly, but that actually isn’t true. Rather, they form slowly as waste builds up on the walls of the drain pipe. As waste builds towards the center of the pipe, it slowly restricts the flow of water. This causes the drain to take longer to drain than it normally does. When the buildup finally meets in the center of the pipe, the clog is complete. So, if you notice that your drain seems to not be operating as well, you should schedule a drain cleaning appointment before the clog has a chance to complete itself.

Bad Smells

If there is a bad smell coming out of your drain, it’s a surefire sign that you have some sort of sewer problem. It is possible that the problem is located somewhere further down in the sewer system, but it is equally possible that the smell is the result of something trapped in the drain pipe. It’s a good idea to schedule drain cleaning in this case, just to be sure that the problem is not located in the drain. If it does happen to fix the problem, all the better.
