Is It Time to Upgrade Your Air Conditioner?

two-techs-working-on-ac

Summer is here, and heat waves are upon us. One of the best ways to stave off the heat is having an air conditioning system you can rely on. The last thing you want is to have your AC malfunction when you need it most, and this is a lot more likely if it’s an older system.

We’ve put together a list of 4 tell-tale signs that it’s time for a Santa Fe air conditioning replacement so you aren’t caught off guard these summer months.

Your AC Unit Is Getting Up There in Age

One of the main factors that determine when it’s time for an upgrade is how old your AC unit is. Typically, air conditioners last roughly 10-15 years– and anything over that is really pushing it.

So if you’ve moved into an older house and know your AC is up in age, the cost of repairs and maintenance will outweigh simply purchasing something new. Plus, newer models are more energy-efficient, so you’ll see the benefit of lower energy bills and better cooling effects.

Your AC Is Always in Need of Repairs

Do you find yourself becoming best friends with your HVAC technician because something is always going wrong? Well, that’s another sign that an upgrade is in order. You should only need repairs for your AC every now and then. Usually, it means that there’s a serious problem that repairs aren’t solving or years of use is wearing the system down.

When multiple components in the unit start to break down in tandem, it’s better to buy something new so you can be confident your AC will be working when you need it during those extra hot days.

Your AC Isn’t Keeping You Cool Like It Used To

Another sign to look out for is your AC isn’t cooling your house down like usual. Sometimes it can be your entire home or individual rooms that are still warm. That means your AC unit is working as efficiently as it should be. You will especially need a replacement if it’s blowing out warm air from the vents.

Remember, your AC’s job is to cool things down and if it’s not doing it right, call a professional and they’ll be able to inspect the unit to let you know if it’s a simple repair or a full upgrade needed.

You’re Spending More On Energy Bills

If you’re noticing spikes in your energy bill, that’s another clue you’re in need of an upgrade. Exborate energy bills from your AC means the system needs to do more work to keep the house cool.

Sometimes it might not be readily apparent but you can compare bills from the same time last year to see if something is up. New units will be more energy efficient because A) it’s new and B) newer technology makes them use less power to achieve the same results.
